Column packing system

The MODcol Multipacker column packing system, used in conjunction with the MODcol Dynamic Axial Compression Spring Columns, make it easy and convenient for scientists doing preparative scale chromatography to reproducibly pack bulk media in a completely portable dynamic axial 1 and 2 columns. The packing system complements Grace’s MODCol product offering which is suitable for preparatory and process purifications.

The MultiPacker instrument for 25 and 50 mm spring columns can overcome packing challenges by using a pneumatic packing system, combined with hydraulic capability. This combination allows a very smooth packing operation, without any pressure peaks and with the packing speed being completely independent from the chosen packing pressure. This technology was developed to address the loss of efficiency and peak symmetry that can result when many samples and large amounts of mobile phase are passed through columns with fixed, low-density beds.

The MODcol Multipacker packing system is integral to Grace’s service offerings that include packing MODcol spring and MODcol flanged columns with chromatographic media upon request. The MODcol spring column hardware provides dynamic axial compression that extends media lifetime for drug discovery applications. MODcol flanged columns, made with patented stainless steel, provide the durability needed for preparative scale GLP applications.
