Lumencor SPECTRA X Light Engine for multiplexed fluorescence detection

Wednesday, 11 September, 2024 | Supplied by: SciTech Pty Ltd

Lumencor’s SPECTRA X Light Engine is an illuminator used in fluorescence microscopy that is recognised for its optical-breadboard-like versatility, its ease of control over excitation spectra, and its short- and long-term power stability.

The product’s spectral output and flexibility make it particularly suitable for fluorescence microscopy and multiplex immunohistochemistry (IHC), a technique used to simultaneously detect multiple markers within a single sample. When combined with multiplex IHC, the device enables researchers to gain a more detailed and comprehensive understanding of tissues and cellular environments.

The latest version of the product maintains its user-exchangeable bandpass filters while introducing several improvements. It features an increased spectral range with solid-state LED light sources, enhancing compatibility with bandpass filters and fluorophores. New excitation windows at 365 and 660 nm are included, while filtered output power is 100–700 mW for each of the six solid-state light sources (previously 50–500 mW).

The design now covers the entire spectrum from 365 to 750 nm, with teal and near-infrared light sources included as standard. The linear output power-to-intensity control setting relationship for all six solid-state light sources is designed to be highly precise, while interlocks provide user safety and mitigate the risk of inadvertent light exposure.
