Restek’s Rxi capillary column phase technology delivers benefits for the more demanding of GC and GCMS analyses. The columns are claimed to have the lowest industry bleed and to be one of the most inert.

The inertness of the product ensures symmetric peak signal shape and high response. It allows chromatographers to analyse acidic and basic compounds with vastly reduced tailing and without derivatisation. This delivers improved retention time stability, improved compound recoveries, lower detection limits and easier integration.

The columns’ inertness improves response for a range of challenging compound chemistries. The columns are designed for enhanced inertness toward acidic, basic and polar compounds. When the response factors for 2 ng injections of pyridine (basic) and 2,4-dinitrophenol (acidic) on an Rxi-5Sil MS column were compared with other columns, the Rxi column outperformed the others, demonstrated by higher response factors for both compounds.

The neutrality of the product allows a wide class of components to be analysed on a single column. It is said to deliver more accurate, reliable trace-level results than other fused silica columns.
