Foss has released a new generation of analysers for routine analysis of wine and grape-must. The analysers are: WineScan Grape for dedicated analysis of grape-must, WineScan Flex for analysis of both grape-must and wine and WineScan Auto for efficient, unattended analysis of wine.

Frequent analysis as a routine part of production is an increasingly important tool in pursuit of consistent quality. The WineScan analysers give on-the-spot results.

The analysers employ Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) technology that allows up to 20 main quality parameters in wine to be analysed in a single sample in 30 s. Maturity and soundness parameters of grapes can be analysed in 90 s, including sample preparation.

Building on proven WineScan FT120 and GrapeScan FT120 FT-IR analysis solutions, the new WineScan solutions also offer high levels of efficiency and reliability.

New features include the ability to monitor colour in wine, an instrument software platform for simple operation according to user-level and sensitive outlier detection for improved accuracy of results. Ready-to-use calibrations ensure results from day one with minimal impact on time and resources. Automatic tracing of results provides a record of results and how and when the associated measurements were made.

With WineScan Grape, filtration of grape-must is an automatic and integrated part of the solution - allowing the fast sample preparation that is vital during busy harvest periods. Instruments are also highly resistant to vibration and temperature fluctuations that can occur when analysing grapes as they are received at the weighbridge.

The WineScan solutions can work side by side with existing Foss wine and grape analysis solutions. The original WineScan FT120 solutions will continue in the Foss product portfolio in a basic configuration. Calibration databases developed for existing GrapeScan and WineScan solutions can be transferred to the new-generation analysers.
