LIMS for the food quality lab

PerkinElmer has released a food industry-specific version of its Labworks Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) package. Labworks foodLIMS simplifies data management and integrates with tracing software to support compliance with regulatory requirements including The BioTerrorism Act of 2002, which requires food and beverage producers to trace their products both backward into the supply chain and forward through the distribution system.

This Labworks solution integrates with PerkinElmer’s chromatography, inorganic and materials characterisation instruments to build on the EcoAnalytix initiative that provides comprehensive application-focused solutions.

Labworks foodLIMS was created in response to the need of food and beverage producers to efficiently and automatically track critical quality parameters associated with product testing. In many food safety and quality laboratories, data are still managed manually, which can complicate efforts to find and communicate results in a timely manner.

Labworks foodLIMS increases operational productivity by automating the collection and processing of results from a variety of laboratory instruments and systems. Quality results are evaluated against applicable specifications, with automatic notifications when problems are detected. The system integrates fully with PerkinElmer’s instrumentation and interfaces with most analytical instrumentation found in food laboratories. The packages come with a suite of software applications, interfaces and reports needed to address the core requirements of food laboratories.

To support food and beverage laboratories, a basic service package with installation and training is included. Labworks foodLIMS can be enhanced with additional applications and services to meet the individual laboratory’s needs.
