CytoCell University offers training on FISH
OGT, a Sysmex Group company, has revealed the expansion of support activities with CytoCell University — an initiative that aims to partner with scientists to provide innovative and expert training on the basics of fluorescence in situ hybridisation (FISH). CytoCell University’s FISH training reaffirms OGT’s mission to support scientists around the globe and help customers advance genetic analysis.
CytoCell University’s first module, set to be part of a series of educational tools aimed at scientists of all levels, is a suitable introduction for those new to FISH but also as a supplementary tool for more experienced staff. The training is being delivered by OGT’s expert Field Application Scientists, covering everything from the basics of FISH, FISH laboratory requirements and protocols to probe design and signal patterns. In addition, OGT has been running Lunch and Learn sessions focusing on troubleshooting FISH experiments.
CytoCell University presents scientists with an opportunity to continue dedicated FISH training and helps staff feel supported with remote, on-demand access to training. OGT’s extensive reach means that CytoCell University modules can be accessed across the globe — available directly from OGT in North America and as an on-demand service from OGT’s distributors and Sysmex regional headquarters for the rest of the world.
“OGT is well recognised for the excellent level of knowledge and support we provide for our customers,” said Mike Ornelas, North America FAS Manager at OGT. “With CytoCell University, we want to extend this to enable our customers’ easy access to OGT’s expertise with virtual and in-person FISH training. The training has already received some fantastic feedback, with customers appreciating the collaborative approach we offer.”
One such customer is Melissa Lyon, Clinical Laboratory Specialist, Cytogenetics, University of California San Francisco Health. Speaking about CytoCell University she said, “Understanding the basics of FISH is essential for my work. The module helped reiterate information I already knew and provide some new content … the information is necessary for everyone in my line of work.”
As we enter a post-COVID world, OGT’s mission to help drive scientific progression will continue in-person with customers able to access laboratory health checks. CytoCell Field Application Scientists will visit customer laboratories, review working practices and workflows, run FISH experiments alongside customers and make personalised suggestions to help improve turnaround time and reduce cost.
