Evident launches new APAC headquarters, imaging competition
Evident, a wholly owned subsidiary of Olympus Corporation, has announced the opening of its new Asia–Pacific (APAC) headquarters in Singapore, marking its ongoing commitment to expand its business and operations in the APAC region.
A manufacturer of life science and industrial microscopes, videoscopes for remote visual inspection, non-destructive testing (NDT) equipment and X-ray fluorescence analysers for elemental analysis, Evident has doubled its headcount in Singapore since the beginning of 2022 and plans to further expand its presence in APAC. The new headquarters leads Evident’s strategy, technology and innovation in the APAC region, which includes operations in Australia, New Zealand, India and Korea.
“With a rich history in developing leading-edge imaging, inspection and measurement solutions, we are poised to pursue sustainable growth in the life science and industrial fields,” said Akio Hirohashi, Chief Strategy Officer at Evident and Head of Evident APAC and Evident China. “We aim to become more agile by integrating smart technologies in our solutions tailored to meet the evolving needs of our customers.”
The new APAC headquarters should be well equipped to drive this growth, featuring a Technology Center to expand NDT solutions with robotics, automation and system integration; a Microscopy Center with a range of microscopes, videoscopes, NDT equipment and X-ray analysers; and a dedicated Service and Repair Center to provide technical support for customers.
“This facility will be home to our Evident Singapore colleagues and become the centre of excellence, collaboration and inspiration for our Evident APAC colleagues,” added Jack Zhang Feng, Head of the Strategy Management Office at Evident APAC and General Manager of Evident Singapore.
The news comes as Evident announces its fourth Global Image of the Year Scientific Light Microscopy Award is now open for entries through to 28 February 2023. For the first time, the contest will welcome materials science images in addition to life science images to show the versatility of the art of science.
Evident’s IOTY Award began in 2017 as the Image of the Year European Life Science Light Microscopy Award, with the aim to celebrate both the artistic and scientific value of microscopy images. Today the competition stays true to this mission by encouraging people around the world to look at scientific images in a new way, appreciate their beauty and share images with others.
The global prize and three regional prizes will be awarded to the scientific images that receive the highest scores. Prizes include an Olympus SZX7 stereo microscope with a DP23 digital camera or X Line objectives for the global winner and an Olympus CX23 upright microscope or SZ61 stereo microscope for the regional winners in Asia, Europe and the Americas. An additional prize of an SZ61 stereo microscope will be awarded to the winner of a new dedicated category for materials science and engineering images.
Contestants may enter by uploading up to three images, with a description of the equipment used, at Olympus-LifeScience.com/IOTY. All entries will be evaluated based on artistic and visual aspects, scientific impact and microscope proficiency. Winners will be selected by a jury and announced in mid-2023.
