Application deadlines for several grant opportunities with Grand Challenges Canada, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the MacArthur Foundation are closing soon. Each opportunity is outlined below.

Development of innovative technology to measure individual dietary intake

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation aims to develop two new forms of dietary assessment technologies, based on image capture and, possibly, image recognition. Image recognition software should be applied, if possible, to identify foods consumed. Food intake and food composition data should be linked to enable conversion of food intake to nutrient intake. The application deadline is 22 July 2016, 23:59 PST.

Stars in Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health

Grand Challenges Canada seeks bold ideas with big impact to use scientific/technical, social and business innovation to address reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health, to save and improve lives in low- and middle-income countries. The application deadline is 19 July 2016, 15:00 ET.

Saving Brains

Grand Challenges Canada is also seeking to fund bold ideas for products, services and implementation models that protect and nurture early brain development in a sustainable manner. Saving Brains will support applications for seed funding to develop and validate these bold ideas. The application deadline is 29 July 2016, 15:00 ET.

100&Change

Finally, The John D and Catherine T MacArthur Foundation has announced 100&Change — a public competition for a $100 million grant to fund a single proposal that will make measurable progress towards solving a significant problem. Proposals focused on any critical issue affecting people, places or the planet are welcome. The deadline to register is 2 September 2016, 11:00 am Central.
