Monash appoints Dean for Faculty of Science
Monash University has announced the appointment of biologist Professor Scott O’Neill to the position of Dean, Faculty of Science.
Prof O’Neill has led the worldwide challenge to eradicate mosquito-borne disease and to improve the quality of life for millions of people around the world. His research is supported by a quality research team, many of whom will also be part of Monash.
Their research, if successful, will greatly reduce reliance on conventional insecticide-based mosquito control and reduce the risk of acquiring dengue for the estimated 2.5 billion people that currently live in dengue transmission areas.
Prof O’Neill is currently Head of the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Queensland.
“I am very excited about the move and the prospect of working with the many talented staff and students to continue the strengthening of Science at Monash,” Prof O’Neill said.
“We look forward to welcoming Prof O’Neill and his team to Monash as we work together to progress the faculty and advance education and research in the broader disciplines of science and medical research,” Prof Byrne said.
Prof O’Neill will commence this role in June 2011.
