The Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia (PCFA) has opened its annual funding round with the aim of supporting groundbreaking prostate cancer research.

Basic and clinical sciences researchers are invited to submit applications across the following categories:

  • Clinician Scientist Award — supports outstanding, clinically qualified professionals who have gained a PhD in health and medical research to combine their clinical career with a research career and establish themselves as independent researchers in the field of prostate cancer. Funding is up to $450K over a period of three years.
  • John Mills Young Investigator Award — provides catalytic funding for early, postdoctoral researchers to help further their research and attract ongoing funding. Funding is up to $100K over a period of 12 months.
  • New Concept Grants — support first-in-field, high-risk approaches that have the potential to generate new research directions in prostate cancer. Funding is up to $100K over a period of 12 months.

In addition, PCFA and the Australian and New Zealand Urogenital and Prostate Cancer Trials Group (ANZUP) aim to invest $1.5 million over a period of three years to support clinical trials that will immediately benefit men with prostate cancer in Australia.

Emeritus Professor Bruce Armstrong AM, who has just been announced as chair of PCFA’s Research Advisory Committee and a member of the national board, described the funding round as “a vital annual boost to Australian research”.

“Research funding is essential to finding solutions to fight this deadly disease, which still kills around 3300 Australian men each year,” Professor Armstrong said.

“PCFA’s Research Advisory Committee looks forward to the submission of research proposals that will reduce the burden of prostate cancer on the Australian community.”

Full details about the research program, grant categories and application details can be found at the PCFA website.
