The C200 bomb calorimeter from PA Hilton consists of a well-stirred, highly insulated reactor with ignition wire, high-pressure valves, electronic digital thermometer and pressure regulator. The 300 mL reactor is manufactured from a corrosion-resistant stainless steel to allow experiments on a wide range of fuel.
The bomb calorimeter has been used in an engineering teaching and testing laboratory that specialises in energy and fuel research. Students or users can design experiments to measure the calorific value of liquid fuels and solid fuels. This would allow the students to compare the results from different fuels.
To suit the laboratory environment, the bomb calorimeter is equipped with components to facilitate ease of experiments such as during data collection and sample preparation. The digital thermometer provides data with two decimal places for high-resolution reading. It also includes a pellet press to assist preparation of powdered fuel to be fed into the calorimeter. The reactor is also equipped with a bursting disc for safety precautions and a bottle pressure regulator for safe discharge of gases.
The unit must be supplied with commercial oxygen capable of pressuring the reactor up to 25 bar.
