Unchained Labs Sunny Suite for advanced nanomedicine development

Unchained Labs’ Sunny Suite range of instruments is designed to accelerate and seamlessly integrate into each stage of nanomedicine development.

Synthetic nanomaterials like lipid nanoparticles (LNPs), liposomes and polymer nanoparticles enhance the solubility, stability and delivery of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). Utilising reusable glass microfluidic technology, Sunny Suite is designed to deliver precise control of therapeutic nanoparticle synthesis for vaccines, gene therapies or targeted drug delivery systems. With adjustable flow rates, concentrations and mixing environments that can be transferred across systems, Sunny Suite delivers consistent particle size and structure from early research and development to industrial-scale production.

The Sunscreen instrument offers rapid, high-throughput screening of nanoparticle formulations, making it suitable for research and development. It automates up to 96 low-reagent volume experiments in under 6 h, reducing hands-on time and minimising human error. Using ultra-smooth, reusable glass microfluidic chips (Sunnies), it allows researchers to fine-tune parameters like lipid composition, total flow rate (TFR) and flow rate ratio (FRR) for optimal particle size, polydispersity and encapsulation efficiency. Once the user has found their optimal formulation conditions, Sunscreen integrates with the Sunshine platform for easy scaling.

The Sunshine instrument helps the user tune in their nanoparticle size with the ability to run 10 experiments in 15 min. Once the flow rates and mixing options have been chosen, Sunshine can shift into continuous mode, making tens of litres in a day, taking the user from small-scale screening to large-scale production without the need for revalidation.

Once the product is ready for the clinic, the process is seamlessly transferred to the GMP-ready Sunbather. This combination is particularly valuable for LNP applications, enabling fast and efficient development of nanomedicines from the lab to clinical manufacturing.
