BD Vacutainer Rapid Serum Tube

BD Diagnostics’ Preanalytical Systems has received US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) 510(k) clearance for the BD Vacutainer Rapid Serum Tube, a blood collection device designed to help acute healthcare facilities rapidly analyse blood serum for patient diagnosis.

The tube is claimed to be the first serum blood collection tube with a gel additive launched in the US that can be centrifuged only five minutes after the tube is filled rather than the standard serum tubes’ 30-minute clot time. This shortens sample processing time and the time it takes for users to begin analysing and getting test results.
