Abraxis LAT kit for non-O157 shiga toxin producing E. coli
Abraxis has announced the availability of its Latex Agglutination Test (LAT) kits for the ‘big six’ non-O157 shiga toxin producing E. coli (STEC). The kits are intended for identification of presumptive positive non-O157 STEC colonies as described in the USDA-FSIS-OPHS-LQAD Microbiological Laboratory Guidebook 5B.02, paragraph 5B.8.
The polystyrene latex particles provided in the kit are coupled to antibodies against each E. coli serotype. When the latex particles are mixed on a test card with fresh colonies of E. coli, the bacteria will bind to the antibody, causing the latex particles to agglutinate (positive reaction). Bacteria that are not of the E. coli serotype will not bind to the antibody and will not agglutinate the latex particles (negative reaction).
