Enzo Life Sciences Proinsulin ELISA kit
Proinsulin is composed of the A and B subunits of insulin and is connected by the C-peptide region. It is processed in the endoplasmic reticulum of pancreatic b-cells and is converted within immature secretory granules into insulin and C-peptide.
While mature insulin is required for glucose homeostasis and C-peptide is associated with renal function, proinsulin has low metabolic activity. The release of proinsulin is significantly increased in patients with type 2 diabetes, as well as in individuals with impaired glucose tolerance. The levels of proinsulin can also increase with age.
The Enzo Life Sciences Proinsulin ELISA kit enables detection of proinsulin in human serum and plasma samples in 3 h, detecting as little as 0.17 pM. There is negligible cross reactivity with insulin and its high-throughput format is suitable for up to 40 samples in duplicate.
The product provides fully quantitative results which are said to surpass semi-quantitative Western blot analysis. It is suitable for research areas including diabetes, insulinoma, hypoglycaemia, metabolic syndrome, impaired glucose tolerance and polycystic ovary syndrome.
