The ToxiLight bioassay kit is a bioluminescent, non-destructive cytolysis assay kit designed to measure the release of adenylate kinase (AK) from damaged cells.
AK is released into culture medium when cells die. This enzyme actively phosphorylates ADP to form ATP which can then be measured using the bioluminescent firefly luciferase reaction.
There is no need for cell lysis (required by other cytotoxicity assays) so repeated samples of supernatant can be taken over time without disrupting the cells themselves. Users can perform a kinetic analysis of cell death and/or other tests on the original cells.
Its features include: single-reagent kit makes the assay very simple to perform, good sensitivity with a detection limit of 10 cells per microwell and a dynamic range of over five orders of magnitude.
The kit is suitable for batch processing in high-throughput screening applications due to extended signal stability.
