Accelerate PhenoTest BC kit for antibiotic susceptibility

Friday, 16 September, 2022 | Supplied by: BD AUSTRALIA (Becton Dickinson)

Accelerate Diagnostics’ rapid testing kit for antibiotic resistance and susceptibility offers results in hours, versus two days with some traditional laboratory methods. The Accelerate PhenoTest BC kit can deliver both rapid identification and phenotypic antibiotic susceptibility results direct from positive blood cultures.

According to the company, recent external studies indicate that the product offers results one to two days faster than traditional laboratory methods, which can include culturing samples for 18–24 h, and then performing a susceptibility test that can take 8–24 h to result. This enables clinicians to optimise antibiotic selection and dosage specific to the individual patient, days earlier. Improving time to optimal therapy benefits both patient outcomes and hospital operations.
