Bio-Rad Laboratories has launched its BioPlex 2200 Antiphospholipid Syndrome IgG, IgM and IgA kits for use on its BioPlex 2200 system in Europe and Canada. Antiphospholipid Syndrome is an autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system mistakenly produces antibodies to certain blood proteins causing thrombosis (clotting) within arteries, veins and small blood vessels.

Patients with antiphospholipid syndrome are at risk of strokes and heart attacks. In addition, thrombosis within arteries and veins has the potential to affect other organs such as the lungs, liver and kidney.

The BioPlex 2200 Antiphospholipid Syndrome IgG, IgM and IgA kits are used as an aid in the diagnosis of this disease by simultaneously detecting two autoantibodies (anti-cardiolipin and anti-beta 2-glycoprotein I) and therefore leading to faster and better care for those suffering from this syndrome.

The BioPlex 2200 system is a fully automated, random access multiplex testing system and provides clinical laboratories with the capability to rapidly process or ‘multiplex’ multiple individual tests, which are traditionally processed separately, using a single small-volume patient sample.
