Blackrock Microsystems Utah Array for multichannel, high-density neural recording

Friday, 11 November, 2016 | Supplied by: SciTech Pty Ltd

The Utah Array, by Blackrock Microsystems, is useful for recording large populations of neurons. This makes it suitable for electrical recording and stimulation of the motor cortex, sensory cortex, spinal cord and peripheral nerve fibres in species including humans, monkeys, birds, rodents, felines and fish — both in vitro and in vivo.

Because the array can be wired to various connector types, researchers can choose a connector that is optimal for chronic or acute readings — from small to large subjects as well as from slice or cell culture preparations. Selection guide options include: the ICS-96 array (acute: small or large animal, slice); the CerePort array (chronic: large animal); and the Omnetics array (acute: small or large animal, slice).

The product features high-density, multichannel configuration, with up to 128 electrodes available in various configurations. There are also customisable designs in terms of pitch, length and pass-throughs. High-quality neural recordings are made accessible immediately after implantation.

The sterilisable system is capable of microstimulation. It features a floating neural interface and offers good stability in acute and chronic applications. Various connector options are available.
