Blood fractionation

Tuesday, 01 July, 2008

RTS Life Science has unveiled its automated blood fractionation (ABF) system. It is used to extract buffy coat (white blood cells) from whole blood samples.

The upgradable system provides a fully automated solution to blood fractionation and processing. The system is self-contained, capable of processing up to 500 samples a day.

The fractionator incorporates Vision System technology that measures the height of each fraction and calculates the volume of each layer following fractionation via centrifugation. It also reduces employee exposure to unscreened blood and a LIMS (laboratory information management system) interface ensures ease of acquisition and manipulation of data.
