A tumour marker is a substance produced, or induced, by cancer cells that can be detected in body fluids or tumour tissues. The identification of a single marker, or a combination of different tumour markers, can reveal the presence of a particular cancer, its stage and a prognostic outlook following treatment or during an extended therapeutic course.
