An AusBiotech investment mission to Hong Kong later this month will culminate in the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between AusBiotech and the Hong Kong Biotechnology Organization (HKBIO) to boost biotechnology development.

The MOU is to recognise the key role that biotechnology plays in economic and social development, and the benefits of a strategic partnership between Hong Kong and Australia.

The MOU aims to promote cooperation in the area of biotechnology, especially where it will assist industry development, and facilitate interaction between Australian and Hong Kong’s parties and officials, scientists and technologists working in the biotechnology sector.

It will be signed by the HKBIO Chairman, Professor Albert Cheung-Hoi Yu, and AusBiotech’s Chief Operating Officer, Mr Glenn Cross.

Members of the HKBIO will be present at the signing ceremony and will host a networking reception for the AusBiotech and Hong Kong delegations on 24 May 2012 at the Hong Kong Science Park.

The MOU is supported by and will be witnessed by the Australian Consul-General, Mr Paul Tighe, Austrade Senior Trade Commissioner and Deputy Consul-General of the Australian Trade Commission, Mr Phil Ingram, as well as Hong Kong Government officials.

The Australian delegation will include senior representatives from Allied Healthcare Group, Global Kinetics Corporation, Kahne Limited, Living Cell Technologies (ASX:LCT), Mesynthes and Prana Biotechnology (ASX:PBT).
