Australian biotech market watch 03/07/09

A low finish to a turbulent week, with the All Ordinaries sitting at 3,821 as of 3.30pm, down 3% from its peak on Tuesday, with the health indicies following suit.

Also up and down this week is Cochlear (ASX:COH), dropping 82c to $56.98 today.

Healthscope (ASX:HSP) has also seen its price slip all week, although afternoon trading has seen a minor rally, with it lifting 5c to $4.32, although this is still shy of its high this week of $4.36.

Pathology and medical services provider Primary Health Care (ASX:PRY) appointed a new non-executive chairman, Robert Ferguson, earlier in the week, but has since shed 2% of its share price to $5.16 in today's trading.

A new CFO at Blackmores (ASX:BKL) didn't help its share price this week, with it dropping 5% since the announcement on Tuesday.

Ramsey Health Care (ASX:RHC) dropped 13c to $11.25, and Sonic Healthcare's bumper performance this month has ended with a slightly flaccid 2.24% drop to $11.79 today.

Pharma company, CSL (ASX:CSL), has been getting a lot of attention from its H1N1 influenza vaccine trials, but that didn't stop it sliding from a high of $32.35 on Tuesday morning to $31.34 today. Seems even the CSL share price can catch a cold.

Bucking the market trend are ResMed (ASC:RMD), which saw a tidy 7c gain to $5.05, and Biota (ASX:BTA), which has been on the up for most of the week, ending at $1.30, up 5c from Monday's opening price. Atcor Medical Holdings (ASX:ACG) also jumped over 15% to 22c today.

Sirtex (ASX:SRX), manufacturer of SIR (Selective Internal Radiation) Spheres, has had a good month, lifting 14% from June 12 to $3.47 today.
