Berkovic to present Danks oration
Wednesday, 19 September, 2007
Neuroscientist Professor Sam Berkovic will deliver the second David Danks oration in early October as part of the Dean's lecture series at the University of Melbourne.
Berkovic, director of the Epilepsy Research Centre at the Heidelberg Repatriation Centre, will discuss the benefits and problems of patient participation in genetic research.
The lecture will give a clinical researcher's perspective on how patients provide privileged insights into disease.
For patients, participating in research is usually a positive experience but they may have misunderstandings or unrealistic expectations about immediate benefits.
The lecture will be held at the Sutherland Lecture Theatre on the ground floor of the medical building at the University of Melbourne on Tuesday, October 9, from 6.00 to 7.00pm.
Admission is free and open to the general public but an RSVP is required. Email mdhs-rsvp@unimelb.edu.au with "David Danks" in the subject line.
