Dedicated cancer research centre opening soon

Wednesday, 16 March, 2016

The Centenary Institute and the Australian Cancer Research Foundation (ACRF) have announced the first dedicated cancer research centre in the RPA Hospital and University of Sydney precinct.

The ACRF Centenary Cancer Research Centre is a collaboration between the Centenary Institute, ACRF, the University of Sydney, RPA Hospital, Sydney Catalyst and the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre. It will be led by Professor Philip Hogg, a world-acknowledged expert in the discovery of new cancer-active drugs and therapies.

To be based at the Charles Perkins Centre at the University of Sydney, the centre will focus on inflammation and metabolism as key drivers of cancers. New cancer drugs are already in the works — including a world-first targeted therapy for triple negative breast cancer.

The centre will be opened by NSW Minister for Medical Research Pru Goward on 31 March from 12.30 pm. To attend the official opening, RSVP here by 24 March.
