Dr Greg Roger appointed as Medical and Scientific Technologies Supplier Advocate

Medical technology industry expert Dr Greg Roger has been appointed by the federal government as the Supplier Advocate for the growing medical technologies market.

Dr Roger - a biomedical engineer, medical practitioner, board member of AusBiotech and member of the AusMedtech National Advisory Group - has been appointed as the Medical and Scientific Technologies Supplier Advocate, bringing over 25 years’ experience in medical technologies to the role.

Announcing the appointment at the AMWU national conference in Sydney, Innovation Minister Senator Kim Carr said Dr Roger was acknowledged as a leader in his field and able to provide expert support to this sector.

“Dr Roger has developed, patented and commercialised medical devices, and is well aware of the issues medical technology firms face in this competitive field,” Senator Carr said.

Supplier advocates work to help Australian manufacturers increase their competitiveness and their access to domestic and international markets. They work with existing government agencies such as Austrade to develop opportunities identified in the Asian Century White Paper. The Australian Government’s supplier advocates have helped over 1000 Australian firms identify more than $500 million in new opportunities.

As a Supplier Advocate, Dr Roger will work closely with the recently announced Manufacturing Precinct to assist Australian firms access new opportunities. Supplier advocates are part of the ‘Opening up opportunities through Australian Industry Participation initiative’, announced on 17 February 2013 in ‘A Plan for Australian Jobs’.
