New agbiotech centre to open

A new AUD$20 million agricultural biotech centre will be opened by Victorian premier Steve Bracks this Wednesday.
The Victorian AgriBiosciences Centre (VABC) will provide facilities for agrifood biotechnology research and development and is located at Bundoora at the LaTrobe University Research & Development Park.
Representing a joint investment by the government, university and private sectors, the VABC consortium comprises La Trobe, RMIT and Monash Universities, the Victorian Department of Primary Industries, flower developer Florigene - a subsidiary of Japanese brewing and distilling company Suntory, the Molecular Plant Breeding Cooperative Research Centre and GE HealthCare Biosciences.
