Recombinant proteins facility opens in Victoria
Monday, 07 December, 2009
The federal and Victorian ministers for Innovation have cut the ribbon at the new Victorian Recombinant Proteins Feeder Facility, located at Monash University in Melbourne.
This $11.2 million facility will be available for use by Australian scientists who use recombinant proteins for drug discovery and pre-clinical research.
The funding for the facility was shared amongst the CSIRO, which contributed $4.6 million; the National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS), which contributed $2.8 million; the Victorian government, which also put in $2.8 million; and Monash University, which provided $1 million.
The centre will be for the production of recombinant proteins under non-GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) conditions for pre-clinical trials, with other facilities required for producing proteins under GMP conditions for clinical trials.
