ResMed (ASX:RMD) has acquired Prague-based medical device distributor Unimedis for an undisclosed sum.

Unimedis distributes sleep-disordered breathing treatment equipment in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

As part of the acquisition, Unimedis’ Ondrej Kalas will take the role of ResMed’s country manager for the two markets.

ResMed Europe president Anne Reiser said the acquisition will help the company expand the European distribution reach for its own sleep breathing products.

“The Czech and Slovak markets have tremendous growth opportunity for our core business in treating sleep-disordered breathing and for our growing portfolio of respiratory care and cardiology solutions,” she said.

“This acquisition continues ResMed’s emerging market strategy of growing our distribution to bring … sleep-disordered breathing and respiratory-care solutions to places where they’re needed most.”

The new European expansion builds on the October purchase of Warsaw-based Mediserv, which has now been rebranded as ResMed Poland.

ResMed (ASX:RMD) shares were trading 1.12% higher at $5.41 as of around 1 pm on Tuesday.
