Australian sleep apnoea devices manufacturer ResMed has taken out the 2002 NSW Premier's Exporter of the Year Award as well as the award for the 2002 NSW Exporter of the Year in the Large Advanced Manufacturer category, which is for manufacturers with more than $20 million in annual sales.

The company beat almost 100 competitors for the Premier's award and will now go on to the national finals for the 2002 Australian Export Awards, which will be announced in Melbourne on November 26.

The awards are intended to promote successful and innovative Australian exporters. Criteria used to judge the applicants include the innovation in the marketing strategy, ability to achieve and sustain export growth and commitment to international market development.

"We are very proud of this recognition by the Australian Institute of Export," ResMed's executive vice-president Dr Chris Roberts said in a statement. "In just over 11 years ResMed has developed into a truly global company, maintaining a growth rate in excess of 25 per cent per annum in revenues and net income. These awards reflect the effectiveness of our global team helping people to live better lives through healthy sleep." Group financial controller Brett Sandercock said that it was important for the company to be recognised for the jobs it had created in Australia, and the money it has brought to the Australian economy through exports of ResMed's products to Europe and the US.
