In its first year of publishing, Australian Biotechnology News has won four awards at the prestigious Australian Business Publishers Bell awards, held in Sydney last week.

After making the final cut in eight of the nine categories for which it was nominated, Australian Biotechnology News won three categories outright and also picked up a Highly Commended award for its work on stem cells.

The weekly Australian Biotechnology News newspaper won the highly coveted award for Best Business to Business Magazine Launch of the Year, while the biotechnews.com.au web site won Electronic Publishing Launch of the Year. Melbourne-based reporter Melissa Trudinger won the Best Newcomer to Journalism award for her work as Australian Biotechnology News' science editor. Reporter Melissa Hulbert was also nominated as a finalist in this category for her work on two other titles on the Australian Biotechnology News group, Today's Life Science and Lab News.

Both Today's Life Science and Lab News were also finalists in the Best Specialist Magazine of the Year award.

Almost 300 nominations for Bell awards were received this year, the largest field ever.
