Student volunteer program and excellence awards closing soon

Two of AusBiotech’s most important student programs to assist bio-students’ linkages with industry are closing soon for 2012. The AusBiotech-GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Student Excellence Awards and the AusBiotech Student Volunteer Program are run annually in conjunction with the AusBiotech national conference, this year to be held 30 October – 2 November in Melbourne.

AusBiotech-GSK Student Excellence Awards

The AusBiotech-GSK Student Excellence Awards are national research awards, partnered exclusively by GSK Australia. These national awards aim to recognise and encourage promising research students and promote the commercial translation of bio-scientific research.

The national winner, announced at the conference on October 31, will be awarded a $7,000 travel grant to present their research at an international conference. A $2,000 grant will also be awarded to the winner’s principal supervisor. Six state finalists will be invited to present their research at the AusBiotech 2012 national conference. The AusBiotech -GSK Student Excellence Awards are open to students studying in any Australian university. Applications for this program close 27 July.

AusBiotech Student Volunteer Program

Applications for the AusBiotech Student Volunteer Program at AusBiotech's 2012 conference are now open to student members of AusBiotech. The 50 participating students have the opportunity to improve their communication and networking skills and experience by working behind the scenes of a major industry event.

The program, proudly supported by AusBiotech, aims to give students a competitive edge in the race for employment in the biotechnology industry. Applications for this program close on 3 September.
