Neuroimaging researcher wins Australia-Harvard Fellowship
An internationally recognised expert in medical imaging, Dr Simon Warfield, has been awarded an Australia-Harvard Fellowship to travel to Australia and work with the biomedical imaging team at the Australian e-Health Research Centre on early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease.
"The Australia-Harvard Fellowship offers me the opportunity to establish closer links with key Alzheimer's disease researchers in Australia," said Warfield, Assoc Prof of Radiology at Harvard Medical School and director of the Computational Radiology Laboratory at the Children's Hospital Boston.
"Australia is recognised for its world-class research to identify and diagnose the disease before it progresses. New therapeutics may help delay the onset of Alzheimer’s if it can be detected early enough," he said.
"The Australia-Harvard Fellowship attracted a field of exceptional USA-based candidates," said Gary Morgan, the chief executive of the Australian e-Health Research Centre.
"Not only does Dr Warfield have very strong academic qualifications, he has already contributed to a number of advances in innovative 3D visualisation techniques used in planning for neurosurgical procedures.”
Some 17 fellowships for scientific collaboration have been awarded since the Fellowship program began in 2004.
