The CRC Association today released 'Building on Australia's Skills' which highlights the achievements from a number of Cooperative Research Centres (CRCs) in the CRC Program.
The Deputy Chairman of the CRC Association, Dr David Brockway, noted that " the CRC for Eye Research & Technology had pioneered an innovative education program to improve eye care in the Asia-Pacific region, reaching nearly 3000 practitioners and over 250 educators in around 60 institutions".
In addition, Dr Brockway noted that " the CRC for Catchment Hydrology had developed a novel approach to removing pollutants from urban stormwater to protect waterways and bays from stormwater pollution and that it was being used by a range of agencies".
Other achievements spanning science, engineering, electronics, food, and technology emphasised the diverse nature of CRC outcomes that deliver both public good and commercial benefits for Australia. For example, projects included a ship classification radar to identify not only where the vessel is but what it is, an acoustic shock protection device for users of telephone headsets, and an innovative education program to provide a forum for discussion of issues arising from gene technology and its applications.
