CSIRO and CQU research collaboration
Monday, 27 August, 2001
CSIRO and Central Queensland University have announced a research collaboration. The agreement will lead to the re-location of the CQU Plant Sciences Group, led by Professor David Midmore, to the CSIRO's JM Rendel Laboratory.
The Plant Sciences Group, consisting of around 50 scientists, postdoctoral fellows, technicians and research students, is among CQU's most successful at securing external support for their research, at more than $1 million per annum. Their applied research addresses many of the key agricultural issues in Central Queensland, elsewhere in Australia and overseas.
Topics of research include organic vegetables, alternative crops for fibre, non-invasive sorting of premium fruit, green utilisation of 'grey water' and the development of new varieties of bamboo.
