Custom-designed microarrays
Monday, 22 April, 2002
A custom-designed microarray slide has been designed for the analysis of gene expression in individuals with B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukaemia.
Designed by Dr Anthea Downs of PathCare, Nedlands, WA, and fabricated by Ms Lisa Morris of the AGRF Microarray Group, the chip can be used to better predict clinical outcomes for individuals with B-CLL.
Dr Downs used AGRF's 40K human cDNA library as a starting point to generate the B-CLL array and the approach paves the way for design of other purpose-built arrays.
Using current cDNA libraries it is possible to cherry pick any number of individual clones to create arrays directed towards particular diseases or cellular processes as defined by a client.
