Finance for 1284 research projects

Dr David Kemp, the Minister for Education, has just announced that 1284 additional research projects will start across Australia in 2002.

The federal government will provide $105 million in 2002, with the total value of the grants over their five year periods expected to be $294 million. Features of the additional projects include a doubling of the Early Career Research centres, a doubling of the number of Australian Postdoctoral Fellowships, a salary increase of 15% for 580 new and existing Fellows, an extension of project length up to five years from the previous maximum of three, a 34% increase in industry contribution, and $35 million (a 30% increase) to benefit regional and rural Australia.
