Funding boost for science
CSIRO chief executive Dr Geoff Garrett says this year's budget is a strong one for science.
"This budget supports ground-breaking collaborative programs that enable CSIRO to continue to deliver great science and innovative solutions for the benefit of Australia," Dr Garrett said.
The outcomes are in line with the expectations from last year's negotiations when the Government allocated triennium funding to CSIRO of $1,665 million.
In the budget, CSIRO received $593.9m direct appropriation funding. This is a 2.9% increase over 2004/05 appropriation of $577.1m.
This includes $35m for the second year ($30m was provided in 2004/05) of the additional $305m funding over seven years for CSIRO's Flagship initiative announced by the Government in last year's budget.
