Manufacturing quality takes focus in national roadshow

Recent events in the Australian manufacturing sector have raised the focus upon end-to-end quality assurance requirements and how the transparency of plant floor operations affects boardroom decision-making.

The manufacturing sector has long languished with the legacy issues created by incompatibility of process systems with so called 'New IT'. Isolated islands of automation and information create the opportunity for the true state of plant floor operations to be obscured from fully qualified management view.

It is this ongoing situation in the sector that has given rise to a series of seminars to be run over May 26-30th by Metquip Systems in conjunction with NorthWest Analytical. Both organisations have longstanding reputations in the global manufacturing sector for the provision, installation, and end-to-end integration of quality assurance, analysis and business intelligence tools designed to ensure a 360° view of any manufacturing or process driven environment.

The seminars will give rise to case studies of organisations such as Pasminco that have utilised tools from NWA as integrated by Metquip Systems. Pasminco has used Quality Analysis software to lead out transformation efforts within the business. Results have seen Pasminco gain operational efficiencies whilst also enjoying a higher quality of production, less wastage and a more proactive level of involvement in the decision-making process from engineering teams.

Founder of NWA, Mr Jeff Crawley explains how software such as the Quality Analyst toolset automates the extensive number crunching used to ensure stable quality standards, saying "if a manufacturing or process driven environment can speed up the time required for statistical analyses, improve accuracy and provide real-time reporting with usable graphic displays, then undesirable variations in online production are easy to pin point, assess and resolve.

"The need to effect continuous improvement is a front line production issue deeply entrenched with the ability for any business to remain competitive and profitable. Recent events in Australia have shown that if executive management loses sight and control of quality standards, the risk is losing massive production levels and facing product recalls that can cripple any enterprise."
