Microbial research awarded

Research into yeast microscopy led to Associate Professor Learmouth winning the Award for Excellence.
For the past 10 years the Head of Biological and Pysical Sciences has been studying the adaptation of microbes such as yeast and bacteria, in particular, improving the efficiency and storage of baking and brewing yeasts.
A pioneer in the use of fluorescent dyes in reproting micobial cell activity, Dr Learmouth has received research project funding of $1.2 million as well as infrastructure grants of $1.5 million. Significantly. much of this funding was obtained from industry.
