Minchin Welcomes ABC Commitment To Science
Monday, 04 December, 2000
Minister for Industry, Science and Resources, Senator Nick Minchin has welcomed the ABC's commitment to maintaining a strong science presence in its programming content.
Following recent reports about the future of ABC science programming, the minister has sought and received assurances that the science content remains and that ABC Television intends to increase its science output in the future.
While the long running Quantum program will be discontinued from May 2001, the time slot will remain dedicated to locally produced science programs.
The new ABC Program & Content Development Division has a Science unit, formed specifically to develop science programs for ABC television, radio and the internet. This will ensure that ABC programming continues to play a role in raising science awareness in the community.
