Senator Nick Minchin, Minister for Industry, Science and Resources has welcomed the final report of the Australian Science Capability Review by the Chief Scientist, Dr Robin Batterham.
In August 1999, [the Chief Scientist was asked to undertake] a review of Australia's science base and to present the Government with recommendations for improving Australia's science and innovation capabilities," Senator Minchin said.
A preliminary Discussion Paper, 'A Chance for Change,' by Dr Batterham was circulated for public comment in August this year, with all interested stakeholders taking the opportunity to submit contributions.
The Coalition Government provided $4.5 billion for major science and innovation programs in 2000-2001.
The recommendations of Dr Batterham's Report will assist the Government in identifying and addressing future science and innovation priorities for Australia.
