Proteomic Gel Technologies
Thursday, 28 September, 2000
Sydney based proteomics company, Proteome Systems and Australian biotechnology company, Gradipore, have announced a collaborative agreement to develop and manufacture two-dimensional gel technologies for the global proteomics market.
Proteome Systems is involved in proteomics, which is the study of proteins and how they work in the human body. One of the stiffest challenges facing the new science of proteomics is developing tools to analyse proteins more quickly and to do so economically.
Gradipore is an Australian company leading the world in the development of second dimension gel technology, which is a critical component to carrying out proteomics research. So Proteome Systems intends to source Gradipore's 2D gels for its own large scale programs and for its worldwide sales and marketing initiative proteome platform technologies. This marks Gradipore's entry into a new market with significant potential.
Proteome Systems is already a leading company in the use of gel technologies in carrying out high throughput proteomics. Proteome Systems' 'Chemical Printing' technology links gels to mass spectrometry and represents the crucial development that has been missing in proteomics.
As a result of this collaboration it is also envisaged that Gradipore and Proteome Systems will combine their skills in developing new 2D gel technologies including the key academic partners of both groups.
