Some of the dynamic and cutting edge research currently being undertaken at the University of Sydney will be on show late this week and early next week.

Over two days, Friday September 13 and Tuesday September 17, members of the media along with academics and students can view short presentations and poster displays by a large number of researchers in a wide range of sciences and technologies including: rural management; agriculture; science; vet science; and engineering.

The first day will focus on genomics and proteomics, revealing new details about plant, animal, human and microbe genetics. The second day will look at sustainable development, covering land use ecology as well as economics and the human domain.

The genomics and proteomics showcase will cover a diverse range of research including: the construction and assembly of elastin tissue, which has significant potential to be used in human tissue repair; cellular response to viral infection; the behavioural genetics of honey bees; and the timely emerging of ethical/social issues in proteomics.

The sustainable development showcase will also provide a range of research including: an examination of sustainable cities and public transport; ecological impacts of coastal cities; rural systems; wildlife conservations; energy; sustainable buildings; chemistry; and health.
