WA opposition launch $50 million innovation statement
Thursday, 01 February, 2001
As the prime minister kicked off the federal election year with a $2.9 billion plan to boost Australia's research and development, West Australian Labor unveiled its R&D bid to win the state poll.
Opposition leader Geoff Gallop said research and development had been ignored by the government in WA and his $50 million "Innovate WA" policy would strengthen innovation and create long-term employment opportunities.
"Innovate WA is about securing long-term employment growth for Western Australia by creating a climate that enables existing industries to thrive and new industries to grow and prosper," Dr Gallop said.
He said he would set up a Premier's Science Council to establish WA as a global leader in science and research.
