A portable soil respiration system by ADC BioScientific, the ADC SRS-1000 has been developed to enable environmental researchers to analyse soil microbial activity, in the field, easier and more accurately. The system comprises a portable, yet accurate, CO2 and H2O gas exchange analyser combined with an integral soil respiration chamber designed to ensure precise soil CO2 flux measurements.

The complete compact system weighs 2 kg and is designed for field use. Powered by a rechargeable battery, the system will operate continuously for up to 10 h between charges. The SRS-1000 CO2 and H2O analysis system is housed directly in the soil chamber head, ensuring the fastest possible response time. The soil chamber head itself has been designed to minimise pressure gradients and optimise soil flux experimentation regardless of soil conditions.

Experimental programming is simple using just five soft keys, while the large display facilitates both the collection and reviewing of data. Data storage is on easily exchangeable PC cards giving users unlimited capacity.

Applications for the SRS-1000 include a wide variety of environmental research issues, bioremediation and pesticide registration.

A range of easily interchangeable plant photosynthesis chamber heads is available for use with SRS-1000 making it a versatile system for any environmental research facility.
