Microscopes at microscopic size

10 April, 2005

Traditionally if scientists wanted to look at something small they would put a sample under a microscope but now researchers have managed to shrink the microscope itself to the size of a single human cell.

HILIC columns

16 March, 2005 | Supplied by: http://www.alltechweb.com/

Hydrophilic interaction chromatography (HILIC) is suitable for separating and retaining very polar compounds that do not retain or have very limited retention on traditional reversed-phase packings. HILIC columns retain highly polar compounds with only small amounts of water in the mobile phase. These more volatile mobile phases increase sensitivity with LC/MS applications. Water is used as the strong solvent so increasing water content will elute peaks faster.

Low bleed capillary GC column

16 March, 2005 | Supplied by: http://www.varianinc.com/

Varian has expanded its FactorFour series of capillary gas chromatography (GC) columns with the VF-5ht for high temperature analysis, and the 0.15 mm ID columns for high-speed productivity. The entire FactorFour line, now comprised of nine phases for various environmental and industrial applications, offers a very low bleed specification.
